Description of the research topic:
Due to the prevalence and popularity of digital devices in the information society, large amounts of data are generated, and attention is turned to big data, shaping the fourth, data-intensive paradigm of science that is often labelled as Research 2.0 or Science 2.0. This paradigm not only centres on research data, but encourages the openness of science, promotes cooperative forms of knowledge production, as it relies to a substantial extent on social media.
This topic’s general framework is given by investigating the impact of Research 2.0 on knowledge management processes of scholarly research.
The topic opens the door to investigating the following:
• What is the perception on sharing research data and willingness of effectuating it among researchers?
• To what extent are social media sites and tools propagated for researchers (e.g. ResearchGate, Acadedia.edu) used and to what aims?
• Did the perception of trust and prestige of data and information among researchers change by the influence of the abovementioned social media?
• What is the effect of information overload, personal information management and digital literacy on knowledge management applied by researchers?
• What are the management-like activities performed by organisations of research support (repositories, libraries) in supporting Research 2.0?
