Description of the research topic:

Experimental economics is one of the most exciting new topics of economics. The „experimental revolution” brought along fundamental changes in market and consumer behaviour analysis based on numerous bold premises.

Experimental economics explicitly focuses on market behaviour and other interactive rule-based institutional mechanisms where individual behaviour is not isolated and thus market dynamics can be replicated through experiments.

The proposed research applies economic and game theoretical models to test assumptions and deduce conclusions. The toolbox of experimental economics and economic psychology is used to study the importance of the institutional background in market performance. Bargaining processes, bidding strategies and public tender calls would be examined to show that experimental economics can explain a number of phenomena uncaptured and unexplained by conventional methods.

The fundamental scope might encompass experiments of games involving public goods, hypothetical-deductive methods, causative and controlled experimental procedures, predictive methods (Duhem-Quine problem), elimination and external validation. These methods can mediate between theoretical models and real conditions with the aid of replicable experiments. One of the main hypothesis to be assessed is that of monetary incentives, the actors provide valuable proof over their inclination to act following financial motives. An interesting domestic application of the proposed research was the capacity tender of the Hungarian Power Companies in 1997 led by Nobel-prize winner Vernon Smith with the active participation of the proposer of the topic.
