Description of the research topic:

One of the key objectives of the course is the critical literature review of the „knowledge” or „learning economy” concepts and research orientations. In this relation we intend to reject the narrow and mechanic approaches of the „old” versus „new” economies in making distinction between orthodox and extended approaches of the „new” economy. In addition the course supplies arguments to use concept of the “learning economy” instead of the “knowledge economy”.
Making distinction between the various dimensions of the „human resources” - human capital”, „structural capital” and „network capital” - during the course-related work we are focusing on the rather underestimated role of the “structural capital”, (work organisation) in the knowledge creation and innovation. Within work organisation, special attention will be paid on the role of various types of knowledge (i.e. explicit versus tacit, individual versus collective).
In the last decades, in literature of innovation the holistic view replaced the linear one. However in the innovation policy and strategy development still the later one dominate in the majority of the European countries (Sweden and other Nordic countries represent the rare exception.) The extended or holistic concept of innovation characterised by the combination of the Science-Technology (STI) and practical knowledge (Duing-Using-Interacting – DUI) sources.
The other key objective of the course is to empirically illustrate the distribution of the creative-innovative and non-creative types of work in the European economy and indicate its hypothetical relations with the automatisation/digitisation (Industry 4.0, Work 4.0 etc.) impacts on employment and job quality. For this purpose pan-European surveys will be used. Among them, the various waves (2005, 2010, 2015.) of the employees centred European Working Conditions (EWCS – Eurofound) will be extensively used, together with the other employers’ surveys (e.g. European Innovation Survey (CIS), the European Company Survey (ECS).
