Description of the research topic:

The main goal is to investigate the process of immersion and escapism motivation in behavioral addictions. The aim is to explore the aspects of these phenomena and their interrelatedness: how immersion and escapism are different, what is their relationship, is higher escapism in association with higher immersion experience? Due to the relatively recent appearance of behavioral addictions, standardized measures of different aspects of these phenomena is barely accessible. Thus, the first task to adapt Hungarian versions of immersion and escapism questionnaires and validate them with objective, real time bio-feedback measures (e.g. mouse movement and electrodermal activity patterns) and test the individual differences of these variables during the process of immersion. Results of the present project could contribute to the better understanding of the individual differences of how one gets engaged in different behaviors, and also explores the motivational aspects of initiating a potentially addictive behavior.
