Description of the research topic:

Categorization is a generalization process where we create abstract representations based on specific information. We meet the individually different exemplars of a category, which will be a basis of the general representation. The questions are: i) what kind of mechanism is responsible for this learning process (or there are multiple processes behind)? ii) what is the level of abstraction and how is it related to specific information? In our studies we examine adult participants who learn artificially created categories of complex visual stimuli. We are investigating the learning mechanism, the level of abstraction, and the success of the knowledge transfer where participants are able to use the learned information in new situations.
