Description of the research topic:

Evolutionary theories and research paradigms shall be applied to investigate how people evaluate potential, ideal, and actual romantic partners, as well as themselves as partners. Possible subtopics include effects of discrepancies between ideals and perceived reality on relationship satisfaction, the assortativity of mating, what females and males consider important in long- vs short-term relationships, as well as so-called 'dealbreakers', i.e. traits and characteristics which people want to avoid in romantic partners. Methods can range from qualitative open-ended interviews or surveys (in the preliminary phase) to questionnaires and (at a more advanced stage) experimental designs.
