Description of the research topic:

The aim of the research work is the development of novel asymmetric catalytic systems, which are suitable for preparing optically pure organic chiral intermediates used in the production of pharmaceuticals in a sustainable, environmentally benign manner. The research will be focused on processes, which use heterogeneous chiral catalysts and on methods allowing preparation of complex molecules in a one-pot manner using cascade reactions. Characterization of the novel catalysts and studying the reaction mechanism, including the elucidation of the structure of the intermediate complexes, may lead to the development of more efficient catalytic systems, which is among the main goals of the research program. Another aspect in choosing the reactions is to prepare valuable chiral organic compounds of practical relevance. The asymmetric heterogeneous catalysts will be tested also in a continuous-flow system for improving the efficacy of the preparation of the chosen chiral building blocks.
