Description of the research topic:

Members of microbial communities originated from hydrocarbon (TPH, BTEX) contaminated sites are able to be used for biodegradation of orcanic pollutants. These communities may contain unique microbe strains with unknown enzimatic system (for degradation). Moreover novel species can be found and described from here. Occurance of molecular markers (from the colonizing microbial community) might be described to find unique ones which able to be used as warning signs of pollution. On the sites which contain only one type of contaminations (e.g. hydrocarbons from oil products), measurement of microbial toxicity caused by the contaminants is a very important analyzing method for monitoring the changes of the pollution. It is also can be worthy to analyze the level of toxicity in paralel with the intensity of biodegradation and changes of molecular diversity. The candidate PhD student is able to be connected into the above mentioned multi parameter analyzes of hydrocarbon contaminated sites, which was started in 2008.
