Description of the research topic:

Ecosystem services are benefits that nature provides to society. Social science research related to this concept has been increasing both at international and at national levels, and their results are becoming important inputs for biodiversity policy as well. Change in the land use (regarding any habitat types) causes changes in the provision of ecosystem services and thus has an impact on many user/stakeholder groups (e.g. farmers, nature conservation groups, local inhabitants, tourists, wider population). The focus of the research is on how changes in ecosystem services can be evaluated with social science (qualitative and economic) methods and what impacts these changes have on the well-being of different user groups.
