Description of the research topic:

Ecosystem services are benefits that nature provides to society. Natural and social science research related to the application of this concept in agricultural landscapes has been increasing both at international and at national levels, and their results are becoming important inputs for biodiversity and agricultural policy as well. The focus of this research is the mapping and assessment of ecosystem services related to agricultural landscapes using both natural and social science research methods, GIS techniques and with involvement of the main stakeholders. Scale (farm level and landscape level), farming systems (arable fields, grazing areas) and the intensity of farming (organic, extensive, intensive) will be important aspects to be taken into account enabling comparison of different pilot areas.
