Abbreviation of location of studies: KMDI

Description of the research topic:

Justification of the research topic:
Over the past decade, more and more attention has been given to global and regional levels as part of environmental security as an issue for the growth of various environmental hazards and the depletion of environmental resources (contaminated water resources, water and drinking water shortages, droughts, desertification, destruction of animal life, reduction of natural resources and fossil fuels, the decline in cultivated land). The strategic trends that shape the increasingly important future, the impact of direct and indirect climate change on society and the environment, often beyond the country’s administrative boundaries, require special professional knowledge and cooperation. In analyzing a geographic area - in the light of the complex understanding of security - we can not ignore environmental factors, such as the relationship between the environment and security, and the potential for various cross-border environmental security hazards in the geographic regions in relation to the geographic conditions (eg. geological, meteorological and hydrological).

Objectives:
Investigation of the relationship between environment and security,
Investigation of the impacts of environmental hazards and problems,
Examination of the depletion of environmental resources,
Exploration of the environmental security threats and the relationships of physical geographical factors in each geographic region,
Investigation of environmental hazards (events) caused by cross-border natural and human activities.

Research methods:
Investigation of the related literature,
Investigation of regional, international experience, adaptation of “good practices”,
Research and development of databases and other electronic support sources,
Research of the complexity of environmental security in specific geographic areas,
Research and development of databases and geoinformational support.
