Description of the research topic:

Eolian dust particles and dust storms play a substantial role in climatic and other environmental processes of the Earth system. The largest and most important dust source areas are situated in the Sahara, from where several hundred thousand tons of mineral dust is emitted each year and transported towards the European continent. The candidate will focus on identification of Saharan dust events in the atmosphere of Central Europe by using various remote sensing data sources in order to determine the role of changing atmospheric circulation patterns (e.g. Arctic amplification) in dust transportation and deposition.
