Description of the research topic:
Pediatric patients diagnosed with chronic diseases need a lifelong health care such as in children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). When these children become adolescents, they need to face the situation that they have to enter into the adulthood health care system. If this process is not well organized, it may cause a negative effect on clinical condition and quality of life. In the past, only few prospective, controlled studies were conducted on Transition in patients with chronic diseases (f.e. 1st type Diabetes mellitus, Cystic fibrosis) showing positive effect in the follow-up process. Unfortunately, there is no prospective, randomized, controlled study in adolescent patients with IBD, despite the fact that the incidence of pediatric IBD is increasing (5%/year, based on Hungarian Pediatric IBD Registry: HUPIR). Aim: Prospective, randomized, multicentre, controlled study in adolescent and young adult patients with IBD. Intervention arms: 1.arm: no intervention, 2. arm: only one joint visit 3. arm: at least 3 joint visits/2 years 4. arms: alternative visits, at least 3 times/2 years. Primer outcome: Steroid free remission, Number of surgical processes, Mucosalis healing. Expected benefit of the study: To fulfill this prospective, randomized study with 4 arms analyzing the primer and secondary endpoint may serve important data on the quality of Transition in the future.
