Description of the research topic:

High intensity laser systems generally suffer from pedestals and noise in the temporal vicinity of the main pulse. In the past years both nonlinear Fourier-filtering (NFF) and plasma mirror techniques are introduced and applied for temporal contrast improvement of high brightness KrF excimer systems. While plasma mirror technique is widely used in infrared solid-state systems, the NFF is only demonstrated in the UV The main goal of this research is the application of the nonlinear Fourier-filtering technique for infrared high-intensity laser systems and eventual combination of the plasma mirror and NFF techniques.
