Description of the research topic:

PPOV (per-packet operator value) is a value assigned to each packet, expressing the reward in money if the packet is successfully delivered. At some nodes (e.g. in the edge) of the network we "color" the packets with PPOVs according to network policies and inside the network PPOV-based queueing solely solves traffic management without applying any complex mechanisms in the network core. The goal is to maximize the reward we can achieve. However, several potential use cases can be identified from load balancing to video transmission where such solution may have significant benefits. The project is based on two new patents of Ericsson Research, and focuses on the theoretical aspects of packet marking-based QoS control.
