Description of the research topic:
The debate of the effectiveness of fiscal policy actions are not new in the economic literature. Different economic schools (including Keynesian, monetarist, new classical) and different models (the short run IS-LM model, the general equilibrium theory or even the real business cycle theory) have different views on this question. Modern econometric methods (including vector autoregressive models, co-integration, vector error correction model, autoregressive distributed lag model and their panel versions) let us to investigate causality without serious endogeneity problems. In this topic, the PhD student can examine these questions that had a renaissance at the end of 1990s and have more gravity after the Great Depression of 2009. How the models worked in the new depression period? Old models are valid in the globalization era? Economic peace time and serious recession periods have the same characteristics? Does the increased level of public debt change the structure of fiscal transmission?
