Description of the research topic:

Spatial planning and landscapes help to create alternative urban patterns which protect and preserve ecosystems, as well as support the provision of these services. In a context of growing urbanization and expansion, the evaluation of the loss of Cultural Ecosystem Services(CES) in urban and peri-urban areas as a result of landscape transformation becomes an imperative. The world is rapidly urbanizing with both positive and negative consequences, under the positive consequences, the CES is maintained in cooperation with the tourism industry. Nowadays, tourism is one of the most important CES supplied by rural landscapes, in many cases CES is consider more valued by local stakeholders than other Ecosystem Services (ES). Because of the importance of the tourism to all countries, the decision makers confirmed that they will continue to manage CES because they are crucial for maintaining a traditional landscape picture. So, this research will focus on two main objectives: Firstly, evaluation of CES in urban and peri-urban areas and its relation to tourism sector. Secondly, assessing future changes in resilience at CES level, by mapping the current and future differences change in land use by using a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) based Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA).
