Description of the research topic:

During the production of different dairy products and cheese, the big amount of the processed milk is a waste/byproduct, 90 kg of whey and 10 kg of cheese from 100 kg milk. From one side the whey is high COD content wastewater, but on the other hand contains valuable components like lactose, proteins and minerals). The main goal of our research will be the concentration and/or purification of valuable components from sweet and acid whey. Spray dried whey powder or whole whey concentrate is suitable raw material in the food industry in ice cream or yoghurt production. On the other hand in two stage diafiltration high purity lactose can be produced and crystallized.
