Description of the research topic:
Family businesses on the verge of generational change – The relevance of this hot topic comes from the fact that most of the founders of the Eastern Central European family businesses are around retirement and states before an uncertain future. Only one third of the family businesses handed over the second generation in the family and only 18% remains in the hands of the third generation (in. U.S.). This fact shows the difficulty of passing a family business successfully. Because their substantial economic power (75% of the world's companies, 65% in the GDP, one third of the Fortune companies in Global 500 list, 95% of domestic micro-enterprises) the case of passing on the ownership and management function is a crucial issue. Only the strategic planning could help. Whether their children or other successor could be the heir the family business? Or should they find a foreign manager from out of the business? This is partly a family, partly a generation, partly a business question.
Not only the family businesses but all kind of the organizations is facing with the generational issue. There are five generations in the private and business life working together on the workplaces – with different values, life styles, communication habits and targets
• Which way could the five generations collaborate effectively?
• How are they managed effectively – avoiding the conflicts of interest
• Which is the best solution for family businesses facing with succession?
