Description of the research topic:

The textual representation of marginality is a central problem in the literature of the past few decades. One group of marginalized poets is that of gay poets, whose self-representation is an obvious example both of the compulsion of self-definition and the contingency of innovative poetics. This can particularly be well discussed in the case of such poets who started their careers within a conservative trend (in Britain such a trend is the Movement, and such a poet is Thom Gunn). Research needs to cover the general features of gay poetry and the particular world view of the poet (or poets) to be discussed. Attention will have to be paid to American parallel tendencies as well as such tendencies in other vernacular literatures.
