Description of the research topic:

The salinity tolerance of plants is in most cases multigenic. A comprehensive study with the analysis of at least a combination of several parameters is a necessity to get a survey about the mechanisms which in the end leads to the salinity tolerance of individual species.
Vegetable grafting were used to increasing plant tolerance under environmental stresses such as high temperature, low temperature, salinity stress, drought stress and heavy metal stress.
Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is an important traditional crop that is cultivated worldwide for human nutrition. Eggplant has been shown to be sensitive or moderately sensitive to salinity depending on varieties or cultivars and environmental conditions.
Even the mycorrhiza fungi can mitigate harmful effect of salinity stress on plant.
Most of pervious experiment focused on the mitigation role of grafting or mycorrhiza alone in salt stress, but their combined effect by the eggplant few have been studied.

Main goals of research
Many cultivars are reported as a useable rootstock for eggplant grafting. During the program the candidate will investigate the different graft combination under salinity stress condition. The main tasks will be to found the
- Accordingly, in this work we have tried to do a comprehensive study on the effect of salinity to understand the main mechanisms which allowed plants to mitigate the adverse effect of salinity.
- Testing different eggplant rootstock and scion combination in grow chamber and in open field condition.
- Investigate the effect of mycorrhiza inoculation on grafting eggplants in comparison with non-inoculations plant
- In addition, we are going to exanimate grafting and mycorrhiza inoculation alone or in combination in alleviating adverse effect of salinity stress

Further requirements:
The salinity tolerance of plants is in most cases multigenic. A comprehensive study with the analysis of at least a combination of several parameters is a necessity to get a survey about the mechanisms which in the end leads to the salinity tolerance
