Description of the research topic:

Road networks are vulnerable to disasters both natural and man-made caused disasters. Disasters differ from road accidents or maintenance work in which disasters are capable of destroying large numbers of roads and having longer affecting duration. Damage caused by disasters on a given set of network element can affect the operability of the whole transportation system. However, not all network elements equally affect system; typically some elements are more critical to the network functioning than the others.
We aim to evaluate the transportation infrastructure from a sensitivity point of view based on investigation of operability factors and finding those set of infrastructure components of the network which can have the most significant effect on network vulnerability. Also we aim to find ways to improve these weak points in the infrastructure system which result in a more secured and more stable network.
