Description of the research topic:

The primary technique to treat the large amounts of drosses formed by the melting of aluminium scrap, accounting for a more and more significant portion of the raw material supply of foundries, should be optimized according to the type of the alloy. It requires the clarification of the relevant dross properties and the mechanisms of formation. Further, instead of the environmentally harmful disposal of the fine grained residue from the primary treatment, a procedure to extract the metallic and oxidized components is needed. The hydrometallurgical treatment of the fine residue is a novel approach. The characteristics and conditions of the leaching, separation and extraction processes should be determined on the basis of theoretical and experimental investigations.
