Description of the research topic:

The utilization of municipal wastes – both solid and plastic – is in the focus of the waste management. The problem is in the focus not only from environmental, but also energetic aspect, because vast amount of energy could be saved by long term sustainable recycling of waste polymers, such as plastics, biomass, paper, rubber, etc. Chemical recycling (called pyrolysis) is prospective way for long term utilization of waste streams. The long chains of polymers are cracked into smaller, but valuable hydrocarbons during the pyrolysis at elevated temperature in absence of oxygen. Pyrolysis products could be used as feed stocks for refinery, petrochemical processes or even raw materials for chemical synthesis. In one hand numerous processes are available in industrial scale for waste polymer chemical recycling, however owing to problems in profitability, lots of them are temporary or permanently closed. Contaminants are key for profitable operation of pyrolysis plants. Undesired components in raw materials (such as chlorine, nitrogen, oxygen, etc.) are moved to products, deteriorating their favourable properties. Especially deterioration in corrosion, transportation and storage properties of the pyrolysis products occurs problems in operation of pyrolysis plants and reduce the products price. The corrosion, transportation and storage properties of the pyrolysis products are affected by the raw materials and operation conditions. Product quality could be also improved by adding of additives into the pyrolysis products.

In this work the possibility for improving in corrosion, transportation and storage properties is real waste derived pyrolysis oil is investigated to obtain valuable hydrocarbons for energetic, refinery or even petrochemical application. Real wastes are pyrolyzed in laboratory scale reactor using different reaction parameters. The corrosion, transportation and storage properties of pyrolysis oils are improved using additives.
