Description of the research topic:
Hungarian minority education could be interpreted in many ways. One of the main approach is based on the perspective of the external political, social actors (such as minority interest protection organizations, minority economic and social organizations, political and social actors of the kin-state, the educational system of the nation-state). Another way of investigation could stem from norms and beliefs of the internal actors (students, teachers, parents, minority special, professional organizations). The proposed research would focus on external and internal perspectives, too. In the first case would be interesting to have knowledge about how the external actors’ arguments and interests try to influence the supposed minority, mainly mother-tongue education subsystem. In the second case the research will focus on students’ and local decision-makers’ point of view. At this level, we want to analyze how the value order and life-strategies of youth, or the professional concepts and the organizational culture of the local educational decision-makers shape the role of and participation in mother tongue minority education.
