Description of the research topic:

In this program, we rely on the car-as-a-moving-sensor-station concept and aim to develop a reusable framework of cooperative perception for autonomous vehicle control on the road. Cooperative perception is the name of a new technology for the exchange of local sensing information with other partners or infrastructures via wireless communications technology that can extend perception range beyond line-of sight and beyond field-of-view and enhance the resolution and accuracy of sensory data. For this goal, the following problems, though not exclusively, are addressed: vehicle safety applications with information sharing, map merging, visual object identification with object registration for communication, application of deep learning in sensor data processing, data enrichment techniques by sensor fusion and data mining, vehicle identification, crowd-sensing, multi-modality in sensory information, impact of communications on the reusability of data, trusting and input validation techniques, path planning and cooperative localization enhancement.
