Description of the research topic:

In the last two decades, research on anaphoric dependencies has uncovered many interesting phenomena that were not in the focus of attention during the heyday of classical Binding Theory. Now we know, among other things, that the morphological form of anaphoric pronouns/anaphors can have a huge effect on their grammar; that many instances of apparent anaphoric relations are in fact only instances of coreference, and not of proper binding; and we also know that many uses of anaphoric items can be governed by extralinguistic, rather than by purely grammar-internal factors. Consequently, the study of cross-linguistic variation in anaphoric constructions has been receiving increasing attention. This research aims to contribute to this development primarily by focusing on English and Hungarian data. The first language acquisition of pronominals is also one of the primary focus areas of this research.
