Description of the research topic:
The health of humans, animals and ecosystems are interconnected. Realising the importance of the one health concept in antibiotic resistance, this project focuses on the horizontal gene transfer of emerging antibiotic resistance mechanisms against an important class of antibiotics, the antimicrobial peptides which are heavily used in agriculture and at the same time also a last resort antibiotic in the clinic. The project involves state-of-the-art metagenomic screening and sequencing approaches, as well as human and animal microbiome culturing techniques.
