A hagyományos képi műfajok átalakulása a 20–21. században. Új technikák (pl. film, digitális kép) és új médiumok (pl. installáció, videó), intermedialitás. A képzőművészet új területei és funkciói; a képző- és iparművészet, illetve design határterületei és kapcsolódási pontjai; a vizuális kommunikáció területei (pl. reklám, tipográfia).
