Description of the research topic:

Preserver problems show up in many areas of mathematics and can in general be formulated in the following way:
Given a structure X, determine all those transformations (possibly under some additional conditions) of X
which preserve
• a quantity attached to the elements of X, or
• a given subset of elements of X, or
• a given relation on X, etc.
Using algebraic terminology, these transformations can be viewed as certain automorphisms or symmetries of
the given structure and the task is to describe them.

The study of preserver transformations on matrix spaces has been an active research area in matrix theory
for many decades. Similar investigations has been started and are going on in the infinite dimensional setting,
too, i.e., concerning preservers on structures of linear operators. The aim of the doctoral work is
to contribute to this line of research by achieving new results concerning preservers on
different operator structures, among others, on those which appear in
the mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics.
