Description of the research topic:
In the second half of the 19th century, the Habsburg Monarchy created an internal duty-free economic area, which led to intensive economic interconnections between the two parts of the empire. In contrast to the rapid political disintegration after 1918, the economic and trade drift between Austria and Hungary was a slow and gradual process.
