Description of the research topic:
The general nutritional status of the patients and the nutritional disorders (malnutrition, sarcopenia, obesity) basically influence the perioperative period and the surgical patient's recovery. The assessment of nutritional status, the recognition and the selection of high-risk surgical patients are essential from the point of timely and successful nutritional therapy. The study aims to assess the nutritional status of patients receiving urgent or planned surgical treatment. Further aims are the characterization of risky patients, the starting of appropriate nutritional therapy in these groups and the continuation of it after the surgery, and finally the examination of their effect on patient outcomes (morbidity and mortality).
