Description of the research topic:

The lifetime prevalence of major depressive disorder (MDD) is 15.5% nowadays. Fifty percent of patients experience more than 1 episode during their lives, and frequent recurrences can result in chronic depression. In 2010, MDD ranked second as the leading cause of global disability. Patients with MDD present various deficits of social cognition and mentalization, which can predict a poor functional outcome of the disease. This research aims to investigate the relationship between early-life stress and deficits of social cognition and mentalizing in patients with MDD along with clinical variables.
