Description of the research topic:

Burnout is one of the most widely mentioned phenomena in scientific research which paradoxically most likely affects medical personnel. Due to its frequency, it is also called the epidemic of our time (along with diabetes).
Although, according to its classification, burnout is considered as an occupational phenomenon and not a medical condition, it can also be associated with the development of mental illnesses (such as anxiety, depression, etc.) and chronic, mainly musculoskeletal pain. Many studies have examined the relationship between burnout and the deterioration of mental health, such as alcohol and drug consumption, sleep disorders, depression, and the resulting sedentary lifestyle and obesity.
In addition to mental illnesses, there seems to be a close connection with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, various pain syndromes, respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases, as well as the occurrence of death at a young age (<45 years), which necessitates a reconsideration of the classification of the phenomenon.
The phenomenon is an intensively researched field at the international level, but little data is available in Hungary, especially among doctors and staff working in primary care. The aim of our research is to assess the occurrence and complexity of burnout among primary care professionals.
