Description of the research topic:
In 7-12 % of patients with acute pancreatitis chronic pancreatitis(CP) will occur. We usually realize the late phase of CP, the risk factors which may accelerate or slow the development are not known. The aim of the GOULASh-PLUS study is to understand the influencing factors of the early phase of CP, and to determine which parameters has to measured for detecting the early phase of CP.
In this observational follow-up study patients of the GOULASH-study will be followed after 1-2-3-4-5 and 6 years of the AP episode. Both exocrine and endocrine insufficiency charactereizing parameters will be followed. From blood samples pancreatic enzyme levels, inflammatory parameters and citokines, pancreatic peptides, insulin resistance and insulin production will be measured, oral glucose tolerance test will be performed. Stool samples will be tested for fecal elastase level. Blood and stool samples will be preserved in the biobank for later analysis and genetic testing. Information about dietary habits and environmental factors, such as smoking, alcohol abuse and physical activity will be collected by validated questionners. This study will provide information about the risk factors and influencing factors and measurable parameters of CP.
