Description of the research topic:
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and functional gastrointestinal dysorders (FGID’s) are among the most frequently diagnosed disorders on the field of gastroenterology, which can lead to significant impairment of quality of life (e.g. social isolation or stigmatization), decreased work productivity and an increase of health care and societal costs. Its pathogenesis remained unknown, but probably among many others, altered gut microbiota plays a significant role. Rome-IV criteria redefined the FGID’s as IBS leading to different prevalence data and clinical significance. We have very few epidemiological data in this field from Hungary and Eastern Europe, we planned our project tu study it.
