Description of the research topic:

The energy and the peak electric field strength of single-cycle terahertz (THz) pulses has increased tremendously in the last two decades. The Physics Institute of the University of Pécs play a substantial role in this process. This development opens the way of application of THz pulses for particle acceleration. Accelerated deuterons can generate neutrons by nuclear reactions. The aim of this PhD project is to investigate the possibility of generation ultrashort (< 10 ps) neutron bunches. Investigation includes both using numerical modelling and experimental works.
