Description of the research topic:

The complement system is an importent component of innate immunity. Complement dysfunction and dysregulation, however, may lead various diseases and damage to the host. Inhibitors acting at certain points of the complement activation routes could have therapeutic potential in the treatment of complement-mediated diseases. The PhD candidate, therefore, is expected to generate and characterize complement inhibiting proteins, and compare their activity with complement factor H and other complement inhibiting molecules.
