Characterization of the RNA binding of histone lysine methyltransferases

THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Institute: Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest
biology
Doctoral School of Biology

Thesis supervisor: Ágnes Tantos
Location of studies (in Hungarian): Institute of Enzymology, Research Centre for Natural Sciences
Abbreviation of location of studies: ELTE

Description of the research topic:

Earlier works of the research group have shown the in vivo RNA binding capacity of KMT2D and KMT2F histone lysine methyltransferases. The PhD project aims at the structural and functional characterization of these interactions in vitro and in cell. In vitro studies involve binding experiments with different RNA and protein constructs, their structural characterization using CD and NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. In cell experiments will consist of pulldown colocalization and silencing studies.

Required language skills: English
Further requirements:
Advanced molecular biology studies, experience with bacterial expression systems: cloning and purification of recombinant proteins.

Number of students who can be accepted: 2

Deadline for application: 2023-05-31
