Description of the research topic:

Efficiency, speed, information networks and artificial intelligence determine the impact of modern technology on society. Accordingly, research topics can primarily be the epistemology of data-driven systems, the ontology of virtual worlds or digital twins, the limitations of machine learning or robotics, the political and security abuse possibilities of cyberspace, or the technological constructivism of social well-being. These research topics also allow synergies in parallel and current areas such as globalization, overpopulation or sustainability. As even more studies are published on these topics regarding the biases or distortions of technology production and coding structures, it is highly recommended to analyze the related ethical and social responsibility issues. Depending on the complexity of the topic, different methodological approaches are also possible. On the one hand, a timeline study supports comparative research on the impact of dynamically changing technologies. It is also possible to focus on a prominent technology from artificial intelligence to quantum computers, providing a critical analysis of the areas of application and possible consequences. Trend analyses and case studies, systematic literature reviews and policy papers can all support the work for synthesizing. For the purpose of applied research, a critical analysis of topics such as innovation, open source code, surveillance, social value or trust is recommended. The goals are to present new results for professional and scientific debate, and also, to provide prestigious scientific dissemination. A priority purpose is also the publication of results that can be used in practice, supporting further scientific research or policy-level decisions.
