Description of the research topic:
According to pessimistic estimates, microbial drug resistance will be the leading cause of death by 2050, unless novel antimicrobial strategies are developed. Therefore, understanding mechanisms that are underpinning antimicrobial resistance is of critical importance.
The proposed PhD project will target the systematic fine-mapping of evolutionary mechanisms that are leading to antibiotic resistance in human pathogens. As a next step, based on this knowledge we will also design novel therapeutic strategies.
The project will involve latest approaches from synthetic biology, high-throughput screening and utilize state-of-the-art sequencing technologies. For further details, please visit: http://group.szbk.u-szeged.hu/sysbiol/
