Description of the research topic:

A memory colour is a colour that can be associated with an object (e.g. fruits, leaf, sky) that is often seen in everyday life and is similar to most people. A memory colour is the typical colour of an object that we remember through our experience of the object. The more often we see a certain object in our lives, the more consistently can its colour be reproduced in our brains.
Several studies exist on the topic of memory colours from mid of 20th century to recent years, just to mention a few of them [1-5].
Developing IT applications, such as Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR), serious games or front-end of a web application requires different techniques, tools, and guidelines for the identification and design of elements, including colour design. Therefore the research questions (RQ) related to memory colours include several main areas:
RQ1: Does the nationality of people affect their long-term memory colours?
RQ2: Does people's memory colour change if they live in another country for a long time?
RQ3: Are there typical colours for different VR/AR game types?
RQ4: Does the amount of time spent playing VR-based games affect our long-term memory colours?
RQ5: Can it be determined based on the test results of memory colours that someone is addicted to VR games?
RQ6: Does the presence or absence of the image cue affect the choice of colours?
Deepening the analysis of these issues is key to strengthening the foundations of Serious Games research.
The main goal of the Ph.D. is to develop new test methods for memory colours, and build a methodological proposal, comparison, and analysis with new algorithms for different serious games.
