Description of the research topic:

Many different additives are used in the synthesis of polymers. These molecules can be incorporated into the product to improve the processability and end-use of polymers. The first major step in the history of additives was taken by Charles Goodyear, who improved the properties of natural rubber by adding sulphur. From this point on, the history of polymers and additives became inseparable. Experimental and theoretical studies of bio-based antioxidants are being carried out in this project. Additives with antioxidant properties are used to prevent the oxidation of polymers. The applicability of biomolecules will be investigated and compared to their synthetic counterparts. Promising bio-antioxidants will be selected for use in "green" polymer formulations.
