Description of the research topic:
Polyurethanes (PU) are one of the most versatile polymers. They are made by reacting di-, oligo- or polyisocyanates with polyols to produce different materials (e.g. heat insulators). During their synthesis various catalysts are used depending on the final product. The description of the catalytic reactions at the molecular level could further initiate the rational design of new polyurethanes. In this project, the catalytic activity of PU catalysts will be compared and studied by using computational and experimental tools. Based on the results, we will design new polyurethanes.
