Description of the research topic:

Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) was and still it is the major transmission protocol used in the Internet. Traditional TCP and its variants were primarily designed for wired networks, but emerging wireless networks and the increasing demands motivated researchers to develop new versions and optimize them for different network environments. Recent techniques, e.g., QUIC are intended to support data transfer in a more efficient manner than older TCP versions did. One of the other very promising solution is the TCP BBR, which is a congestion-based congestion control algorithm developed by Google and published in late 2016. BBR is still under development and its performance is in the focus of current research. In this PhD research the main goal would be to understand and compare such recent transport techniques and make a proposal for an efficient data transfer paradigm. The task involves analytical, simulation and laboratory measurement methodologies.
