Description of the research topic:

Stars of mass below roughly 10 solar masses evolve along the asymptotic giant branch phase where they produce the elements heavier than iron via neutron captures and eject them into the interstellar medium. These stars contribute to roughly half of all the cosmic abundance of these elements in the Universe. Complex nuclear networks are needed to address this process; in this project existing networks will be extended and the nuclear physics inputs improved. This methods will be applied to address open questions related to the composition of meteoric stardust and of peculiar stars observed to be chemically enhanced in the abundances of the elements heavier than iron.
