Description of the research topic:
Continuous manufacturing is one of the most current research topics related to pharmaceutical production lines. This topic focuses on the support of such production systems using high speed or high resolution camera systems. The goal is to provide quick and non-intrusive measurement results during various phases of medicine production, so that faulty products can be spotted and countermeasures can be applied in time. This allows for minimizing waste and the risk of producing faulty medicine. Goals of the theses can be for example the following:
- The accurate estimation of the particle size distribution of granules using high speed (150+ FPS) camera with macro lenses.
- Estimating quality of crystallized materials based on geometric properties of the crystals.
- Estimating the distribution of the components of a pill using RAMAN spectroscopy.
- Creating deep neural network based solutions for the above tasks by generating synthetic training image sets using automation of 3D modelling and data augmentation.
