Description of the research topic:

a) Background of research:
Nowadays in industry and production the digital twin solutions become more and more usual. The point of digital twin is that it aspires to imitate the real entity as perfectly and as detailed as possible in real time with the help of modern technologies of our time such as big data, IoT (Internet of Things), iIoT (industrial Internet of Things) or AR (Augmented reality). Market participants who approaching their systems with a digital twin solution, can make their operational decisions in the way that all alternatives can be considered by its impact on the system. In this way they can assure that always the optimal decision is going to be made from the system’s point of view. The expectations of warehouse-logistics systems are growing in lead time, in flexibility, or in the size of handled assortment. This brought to life the cross-docking system and made its relevance grow in industry. From the point of view of a commercial company’s cross-docking system who is running a tight operation, making the right decisions at the right time is the key. In this the digital twin of the system could help. Nowadays an average warehousing system is ran manually and its elements has higher degree of freedom (Warehouse workers) and this way the whole system can has a much higher degree of freedom than a i.e. a production system.
b) Goals of research:
In the world of scientific publications until in cross-docking systems and in digital twin solutions lots of research are being made/were made, the combination of the two topics is underrepresented. This research topic is to investigate the right of exist, the feasibility and the usefulness of digital twin solution in cross-docking systems. The result can be especially useful from the point of view of the industrial participants and integration of logistics into industry 4.0
c) Main tasks of research:

Collecting digital twin solutions from other industries and comparing them from the usefulness point of view in warehouse logistics.
Developing a suitable digital twin solution to cross-dock systems (interfaces, logics, etc.).
Testing the newly developed digital twin in a real or simulated environment.
Confirmations or refutation of the basic thesis based on the results, drawing further conclusions.
