Description of the research topic:
Quinazolines represent a class of privileged scaffolds that occur in naturally occuring alkaloids, some of which exhibit a wide range of biological and pharmacological activities. These quinazolin-4(3H)-one based alkaloids attracted our attention not only due to their promising pharmacological properties but also their intriguing chemical structures. Moreover, as part of our ongoing pharmaceutical chemistry related programs or present aims are the synthesis of their alicyclic analogues. Our research program is directed towards: (a) Synthesis of heterocyclic compounds across ring-closing reactions by starting from unsaturated bicyclic amino acid derivatives.(b) Investigation of the retro-Diels Alder reactions of the synthesized heterocycles.
