Abbreviation of location of studies: GYT

Description of the research topic:

Cutting of aluminium alloys is becoming increasingly important as the use of aluminium alloys in the automotive industry is increasing. When machining aluminium alloys, difficulties can be occurred because of the extreme ductility of pure aluminium and the hard-abrasive effect of the alloys, like silica. Because of this, ensuring the required accuracy and surface quality could be problematic. The aim of this research is to search for tool and technology data with sufficient accuracy and surface quality, to analyse the characteristics (cutting forces, temperature, surface quality, accuracy) of material removal process at different machining processes with defined cutting edge geometry tools (turning and milling).

Research Targets:
Applicability of different tool materials and tool geometry for aluminium alloys cutting, from point of view of accuracy and surface roughness of the machined surface. To research connection between the technological parameters and the result of the machined quality, cutting forces end temperature. To find relationship between the tool edge radius and the minimal removable chip thickness.
Industrial background:
Institute of Manufacturing Science has more R&D works and good relationship with industrial firms (like ZF Hungary Ltd) in the field of automotive industry. These cooperations need the results of this research, which means a very good encourage of this research.
